Toni Boot has been elected mayor of Summerland narrowly defeating candidate Janet Peake.
Boot won with 2,331 votes, according to CivicInfo B.C.
Incumbent councillors Doug Holmes, Erin Trainer, Erin Carlson, Richard Barkwell were re-elected. They will be joined by newcomers Doug Patan and Martin Van Alphen.

Summerland is located in the Okanagan, about 17 kilometres north of Penticton.

History
Summerland was first home to the Okanagan people, who traversed an area from Revelstoke all the way down to Washington state.
They traded furs with Europeans until the industry slowed down in the mid-19th century.
Then, gold was found in the Fraser Canyon, attracting Americans and others, and a number of them would make their riches in agriculture instead of minerals.
They would come to agreements with First Nations, but they would be broken as settlers started to claim land in what is known as Summerland today, largely through a process known as “pre-emption.”
Summerland would become the name applied to the area starting in 1902, with the establishment of a post office.
Advertising would aim to attract ranchers, retired military and English aristocracy; they didn’t want Englishmen who came from rich families, but who were given money to stay away from home. But settle in Summerland, these remittance men did.
An important development would come in 1914, with the establishment of the Dominion Experimental Farm, a research facility that looked at which products were well suited to grow out of Summerland’s soil.
