Toronto paramedics say a female victim pulled from a two-alarm apartment fire in the city’s downtown has been taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to a high-rise apartment on Huntley Street, near Sherbourne Street and Bloor Street East, after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Jim Jessop, deputy chief of Toronto Fire Services, told Global News that crews found a working fire inside one of the apartment units. After they searched the unit, Jessop said they found the victim unconscious. The woman was brought down to the lobby and Jessop said firefighters began performing CPR.
The victim was then rushed to hospital by paramedics with a police escort. A Toronto Paramedics spokesperson told Global News the patient was resuscitated.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
