Winnipeg police charge panhandler after vehicle windshield shattered

A 27-year-old man has been charged after police said he destroyed a woman’s windshield with a squeegee over the weekend.

Police were called to the intersection of Fermor Avenue and Lagimodiere Boulevard just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Investigators were told by the woman an aggressive panhandler approached her vehicle while stopped at a red light and began to squeegee the driver’s side window.

The woman said she did not want the window cleaned but the man continued anyway and then asked for money.

Police said after the woman refused, the man struck the front windshield several times with the squeegee, causing the window to shatter. The woman wasn’t hurt.

Officers found the suspect nearby and arrested him.

Ryan Ronald Colomb, from The Pas, has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and identity fraud.
