Montreal police search for suspect in connection with city’s 7th homicide

Police confirmed Saturday morning that one of two men shot Friday night in Montreal’s Ville-Marie boroguh has died.

Police responded to several 911 calls shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, reporting shots fired on Bercy Street.

Two men, aged 31 and 42, were found on the ground as officers arrived on scene.

Multiple shell casings could be seen around them, according to Andrée-Anne Picard, media relations spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal.

Picard said they sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Both men were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. One man died in hospital and the other was listed in stable condition, as of Saturday morning.

The suspected shooter’s identity is unknown. Police say the suspect may have left the scene of the crime in a vehicle heading south on Bercy Street.

Bercy Street was closed to traffic, between Ontario Street East and Ste Catherine Street, to allow for the investigation.

It is the seventh homicide of 2018 on Montreal police territory.
