It’s not your usual traffic call for the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
Police are scratching their heads trying to figure out how a stolen pick up truck ended up in the waters off Kits Beach.
Officers were called just after 12:30 on Thursday by someone who had spotted a set of tire tracks in the sand heading into the ocean, according to a VPD media release.
As the tide receded, it revealed what appears to be a newer-model black pick up truck abandoned in the ocean.
Police discovered the truck was empty, and had been reported stolen early Thursday morning.
The VPD said it was working with the Vancouver Park Board and the Coast Guard — which called in its hovercraft — to pull the truck from the water and minimize any environmental impact.
Anyone with information about the stolen truck, or how it got in the ocean, is asked to call Vancouver police, or contact Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.
