A 35-year-old man is facing a string of charges following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen semi truck and multiple police detachments including the Calgary Police Service and RCMP.

Police said investigators were notified about a semi that had failed to stop for officers at about 9:45 p.m. on Friday as it was travelling south on Highway 2.

The truck was stolen from Red Deer and had smashed into parked vehicles, according to police.

Officers used a spike belt but were unable to stop the semi, despite damaging its tires.

Police said the driver eventually turned into Airdrie and continued to drive even though the front tire was destroyed.

Airdrie RCMP were eventually able to stop the semi on 40 Avenue in Airdrie, with help from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Calgary Police Service’s Hawcs helicopter and the CPS tactical unit.
