The London Police Service says it will take part in a province-wide gun amnesty program next month.
Starting Apr. 1, police won’t recommend weapons-related criminal code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in a firearm as long as they haven’t been used in the commission of a crime.
The program will run for the entire month of April. It will be a collaboration between the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and local municipal police services across Ontario.

Police say the amnesty program is a way to provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety.
Those interested in participating are advised to call the London Police Service’s non-emergency number at 519-661-5670. Police say under no circumstances should anyone deliver guns or ammunition directly to police headquarters. They will come to you.
No anonymous submissions will be accepted.
