Editor’s note: A previous version of this story stated the fire is at Mainstream Metals. That company is a tenant of the building at 4350 Harvester Road, but was not affected by the fire.

Burlington firefighters battled a blaze at a recycling facility on Harvester Road, west of Appleby Line, Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., fire crews were called to the scene after a large pile of recyclables caught fire.

Halton regional police said on Twitter that the fire initially started with a vehicle inside the plant, and then caught on to a scrap pile.

The flames and billowing smoke caused a visual distraction for motorists in the area — including commuters on the QEW.

Police had closed Harvester Road at South Service Road and Fraser Drive.

No one was hurt.
