Charlie Jackson posted the video. He said it was quite a chaotic scene.
“I was able to slow down and pull over to the side [of the road] but some other people did not,” Jackson said.

“I was able to see the one accident where the truck plowed into a camper trailer. Then there was a pickup truck, he was able to get control and avoid any accidents.
“After that everyone started to slow down and pull over to the side.”

For several hours, the westbound lanes of Highway 43 were impassable about 40 kilometres west of Whitecourt. They were reopened early Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m., police said all lanes had been reopened.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the highway because of icy conditions and no visibility in some areas.
