Northern Alberta’s Highway 43 fully reopens after multi-vehicle collision

A northern Alberta highway was closed Wednesday morning because of a collision involving a number of vehicles.

It happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 43 at Two Creeks, which is east of Fox Creek.

RCMP said there were no reported injuries, but video posted on Facebook suggested the damage to some vehicles was extensive.

Charlie Jackson posted the video. He said it was quite a chaotic scene.

“I was able to slow down and pull over to the side [of the road] but some other people did not,” Jackson said.

“I was able to see the one accident where the truck plowed into a camper trailer. Then there was a pickup truck, he was able to get control and avoid any accidents.

“After that everyone started to slow down and pull over to the side.”

For several hours, the westbound lanes of Highway 43 were impassable about 40 kilometres west of Whitecourt. They were reopened early Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m., police said all lanes had been reopened.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the highway because of icy conditions and no visibility in some areas.
