RCMP say two people are dead after a suspicious fire at a home in Springhill, N.S.
Springhill Fire Department Chief Stanley Hunter said the fire broke out at a home on Beatons Lane around 4 p.m on Tuesday.
He said that they believe the fire started in the basement of the home.
“It didn’t seem like there were any kind of detection devices in there. I didn’t hear any,” Hunter said.
“None of the firefighters reported hearing anything going off but the place was under renovation so anything like that may have been disconnected.”

He said the fire damaged the inside of the home but was extinguished quickly, with the bodies being found shortly afterwards.
According to Hunter, the bodies were found close together on the homes main floor.
“We have not determined the nature of [the fire]. We put the fire out and the RCMP are in charge of it now,” said Hunter.
RCMP have not released the ages, gender or identities of the remains found in the fire.
“Part of the investigation we’re going to be looking at everything to determine what caused the fire and the nature of causing the deaths of the two individuals found in the home,” said Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, spokesperson for the RCMP.
Hunter told Global News that the people who lived in the home are believed to have just moved to the town. A truck with Ontario plates was parked next to the home on Tuesday morning.
The Nova Scotia medical examiner’s service and the office of the fire marshal are at the scene as they assist RCMP in their investigation.
