The Vernon fire department said a house fire on Mt. Bulman Place, in the Middleton Mountain area of Vernon, was noticed by a man walking his dog.
He saw smoke coming from the eaves around 3:15 p.m. on Monday and took action.
“His early notification of the fire really led to a successful outcome,” Interim Fire Chief David Lind said.
“Not only did he notify the fire department quickly he also went in and made sure the home owner was aware and that they exited the home quickly.”
Lind said there were renovations going on at the home and “it is looking like some aspect of the renovation contributed to the fire.”
However, the investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
Lind said because the fire was detected early and fire crews responded quickly, the damage from the fire was minimized.
There was damage to a wall and an attic space. Lind estimates the fire caused about $25,000 in damages.
Everyone got of the house safely.
