A man in his thirties was seriously injured when the backhoe he was operating tipped over in Lachine late Monday.
The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. at a Cegerco project that is clearing concrete debris at a Parks Canada site along the Lachine Canal.

The shovel on the backhoe was improperly installed. That caused a balance issue and resulted in the machinery tipping over.
“Work operations have been suspended at the site,” said Julie Robitaille, Quebec’s health and safety board (CNESST) spokesperson.
CNESST says that the man, a foreman at the site, was transported to hospital in serious condition but doctors do not fear for his life.
