Italian police have arrested two caregivers in Trapani, Sicily, after they captured a video of them abusing a 75-year-old woman.
State police say the two caregivers, who have not been identified, are responsible for the physical and psychological violence against the elderly woman, who is sick and bedridden.
During an investigation, police captured video from outside of the elderly woman’s property. Through the window, you can see the two caregivers hitting and slapping the elderly woman repeatedly. The video also shows the caregivers using several objects to strike the woman. It appears that one of the caregivers also spits in the woman’s food.

In a press release, the police say they intervened during the abuse and arrested the suspects, aged 36 and 53. The abuse happened when the caregivers were changing the woman’s sheets and while they were feeding her, police say.
They report that the elderly woman was screaming during the mistreatment, but none of the neighbours called police. The woman has been admitted to hospital and is now being treated.
