Two RCMP cadets fainted as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was giving a speech in Regina Friday morning.
Trudeau was naming Brenda Lucki as the RCMP’s first permanent female commissioner. During the speech at the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina, two cadets standing behind the podium dropped due to a lack of circulation, according to RCMP sergeant major, Tammy Patterson.

“It’s very common for members to faint on parade,” Patterson said. “You’re standing still, the blood is not circulating, it’s not getting up to your brain. And your brain is telling you to faint I guess.”

She said although it’s typical to happen to RCMP, there are “tricks” to prevent this, such as moving your feet and squeezing your calves to get the circulation going.
“Of course they were standing right behind the prime minister…so they were trying not to move and fidget,” Patterson said. “They were trying their very best, I could imagine, to look great as a backdrop. But those things happen.”
It’s believed the two cadets are both doing well.
