Police investigating human remains found near St. Thomas

The grisly discovery of human remains has sparked an investigation just outside of St. Thomas.

Provincial police received a report that remains were found in the area of Turner Road in Elgin County on Tuesday, between the St. Thomas Expressway and Waterworks Park.

Officers are investigating the discovery, alongside the Elgin County Crime Unit, OPP Forensics Identification Services, the Central Elgin Fire Department, and the coroner’s office.

OPP say they don’t know the identity of the deceased but a post-mortem has been scheduled for sometime Thursday.

Police say the investigation, headed by Det.-Insp. Andy Raffay of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch, is in its early stages. The area is still undergoing forensic identification, and police say they’ll update the public when more details become available.
