EDMONTON- Edmonton firefighters were kept busy, battling multiple fires Saturday morning.
The largest of the morning blazes broke out at a northeast Edmonton apartment building.
Crews were called to Parkridge Estates, located at 29th Street and 116th A Avenue, shortly after 11:00a.m.
Numerous calls were placed to 911, and crews arrived to flames and dark, black smoke billowing out of a second storey apartment suite.
District Chief Dennis Hushagen with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says two people were in the suite at the time, but were able to make it out of the building safely.
“Crews then initiated a search and rescue to ensure that adjacent (suites) had been evacuated,” Hushagen added.
Dozens of residents looked on as 24 firefighters from six units battled the blaze, which was brought under control shortly after 11:30p.m.
Hushagen says most of the damage was contained to the one suite, but other suites did suffer water damage.
At this time it is not known what caused the fire or how much the damage will cost.
Crews were also called to a garage fire in north Edmonton shortly after 9:00a.m.
Firefighters worked diligently to make sure the fire, at 142nd Avenue and 83rd Street, did not spread to any neighbouring garages or homes.
Two vehicles were destroyed in the fire. At this time it is not know what caused the fire.
Another apartment fire kept crews busy near 83rd Street and 110th Avenue, Saturday morning.
Hushagen says that fire was smaller, but the building was evacuated around 10:30a.m. and it took crews about 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.
No injuries were reported in any of these fires.
