Cabela’s has closed its store in Moncton — shocking both customers and workers when they showed up at the location on Thursday.
Customers were turned away from the parking lot of the sporting goods store on Thursday, with many being surprised over the closure of a outlet that had only opened three years ago.
“I was shocked. It just opened and now it’s closed,” said one passerby.

The company says the store will remain closed, but it will continue to operate their Bass Pro Shops outlet in nearby Dieppe, N.B.
“We feel we can better serve our customers in the region with the existing Bass Pro Shops location,” said Nathan Borowski, a spokesperson for Cabela’s, wrote in a statement.
Bass Pro Shops will reportedly honour Cabela’s gift cards, returns and warranties.
At least 25 full-time employees have been affected by the closure, receiving opportunities to transfer to other locations, no word yet on what’s being offered to part-time employees.
Cabela’s says they don’t intend to close any other Canadian stores for the foreseeable future, which according to their website, are 10 across the country.

Borowski says most of them will receive an opportunity to transfer to another location like the Bass Pro Shops in Dieppe or the Cabela’s they are planning to open in Halifax, N.S.
“We have no plans to close any other Canadian locations for the foreseeable future,” he wrote.
