A fatal fire in Pubnico Head, N.S. that claimed the lives of four children last month has officially been deemed an accident.

The province initially refused to release the cause of the fatal fire but municipal affairs spokesperson Krista Higdon said Thursday that the Office of the Fire Marshal is now able to confirm some details.
The fire broke out overnight on Jan. 7.

Two adults – Phil Prouty and Emma Kennedy – were injured but able to escape the burning home.
However Jayla Kennedy, 4, Mya Prouty, 7, Mason Grant, 7 and four-month old Winston Prouty were killed.

Officials have determined the fire’s ignition source was a wood stove and have classified it as an accident.
