The wait is over.
The final piece of the funding puzzle is now in place – $60 million, from the federal government for the third bridge crossing.

“I am pleased to announce the federal government is committing $60 million for the third crossing in Kingston”, says Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands.
The project was dependent on the $60 million commitment from the federal government, the provincial government pledged their share of $60 million in June of last year, shortly before the municipality.
“This bridge will meet the realities and demands that exist today”, says Gerretsen.
The 2-lane bridge will be over a kilometer long, stretching from John Counter Boulevard in the west to Gore Road in the east.
The third crossing has been discussed for decades by city officials since 1967.
“20-years after amalgamation this is about making us truly one city”, says Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson.
The bridge project has widespread support across the city and will serve as a link between all areas of the city.
