Man, 23, charged with second-degree murder in Deborah Yorke homicide

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) says a suspect has been arrested and charged in the homicide of Deborah Irene Yorke.

Brandon Jake Hollohan, 23, was arrested on Thursday and charged on Friday with second-degree murder.

The body of the 63-year-old woman was discovered at an apartment building on Farthington Place in Dartmouth on Jan. 21. A search warrant was later executed at a property on Jackson Road in relation to the investigation.

“The accused and the victim were known to each other,” said HRP Supt. Jim Perrin on Friday. “They were acquaintances. The level of connection, that’ll come out in the trial process.”

Perrin says the Hollohan is known to police and that “we have dealt with the suspect in the past.”

Hollohan has been remanded into custody for the weekend and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday.

Perrin adds there is no indication Yorke’s death is linked to the homicide of Derek Miles, who was discovered deceased the day before Yorke. The 42-year-old man was found dead at an apartment on Pinecrest Drive in Dartmouth on Jan. 20.
