A young Quebec woman whose arms and legs were amputated after she was electrocuted following a car crash on Christmas Day underwent further surgery in Montreal on Friday.
Sabryna Mongeon, 18, had extensive amputation surgery soon after the crash, but her older sister, Samantha Mongeon, 21, said doctors later determined they also needed to remove Sabryna’s upper left arm.

Samantha said her sister was in a coma and would have to undergo dialysis treatment because of kidney failure, however, doctors considered her condition to be stable.
A fundraising campaign had collected nearly $100,000 as of Saturday morning and organizers were targeting $200,000.
Mongeon lost control of her vehicle Christmas morning and hit a hydro pole in western Quebec. Electrical wires fell on the car and she was shocked by 14,500 volts when she exited the vehicle.

Mongeon spent four hours in freezing temperatures before being discovered by a passerby. She was initially treated at a hospital in Gatineau, Que., then later transferred to the burns unit of a Montreal hospital.
Samantha said she started a fundraiser on the “Onedollargift” website so their mother could spend as much time as possible at her daughter’s side.
She noted the hospital foundation, which helps burn victims, only allows five days of lodgings for the families of patients. They stay in a residence next to the downtown hospital.
Mongeon said she originally wanted to collect $10,000 so her mother could stay there, then raised the target to $50,000 “for my little sister so she can get all the necessary care.”
