Christmas came a little bit early for a 12-year-boy from Langley who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run.
In early October, Matt Pauls was struck by a vehicle that blasted through a stop sign at 204 St. and 40 Ave. during a high-speed chase following a theft at a construction site.
He was critically injured with several broken bones, a severely damaged kidney and swollen lungs.
Pauls has already undergone several surgeries and will need more in the future.
“He’s doing better than he was,” his father, Sean Pauls, said. “It’s going to be a long road. We don’t know exactly how everything is going to turn out.”

The shocking incident prompted two local cycling companies — Norco Bikes and Cap’s Bicycles Langley — to give Pauls a new bike.
“I want to see him riding a bike,” Graham Hobbis of Cap’s Bicycles Langley said. “I will follow up with him then.”
The Pauls family say they are deeply grateful, not just for the $1,700 bike, but for all of the support they’ve received from the community during Matt’s road to recovery.
Matt Pauls can’t ride his new bike just yet but said he plans to be back on two wheels by summer.
“Once my arm heals, this is going to be awesome,” he said.
