Police issue Alberta-wide warrant for suspect in gun range robbery

CALGARY – Police have arrested two men in connection to a robbery at a gun range in October, but are still searching for one more.

Investigators say 37 handguns were stolen from the Calgary Shooting Centre after thieves broke into the building in the early morning of October 11th, taking weapons from several display cases.

Seven of the stolen firearms have been since been recovered, but the 30 that are still missing remain a concern, according to police.

Police arrested two men in connection to the burglary in November. Both 42-year-old Craig Albert Rodrigues and 36-year-old Christopher John Miller are facing a handful of weapons-related charges, including firearms trafficking.

Both men were already in custody on unrelated measures when they were charged.

Police have now issued an Alberta-wide warrant for a third suspect.

27-year-old Cole Trahan is wanted for several gun and break-in related charges.

Police describe him as being 5’8″ tall, weighing 160 lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair often styled in a “faux hawk.”

Anyone with information on Trahan’s whereabouts is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police say the burglary is believed to be targeted, and none of the three accused are known by employees at the Calgary Shooting Centre.

The business has enhanced their on-site security since the theft.

The serial numbers of each of the stolen handguns have been entered into a national databank.

Police suggest the thieves were likely trying to profit from selling the guns.

“It’s unlikely we would find a cache of these [guns] in a group somewhere,” says Staff Sgt. Dale Flemming. “Like seeds out in the wind, [the guns] are scatted out in the community.”
