Mild air causes big melt in southern Saskatchewan

Mild Pacific air moved through Saskatchewan on Thursday, breaking ten records for daytime high temperatures.

Maple Creek, Sask. was the warmest place in Canada Thursday afternoon at 19.4 degrees.

Swift Current

• New record: 13.2°
• Old record: 11.7° in 1890

Weyburn

• New record: 11.8°
• Old record: 9.4° in 1972

Enjoy the warm weather while you can, an advisory issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is indicating a weak La Nina has formed throughout the month of October. The climate pattern is forecasted to continue until April 2018. This could mean a cold and snowy winter ahead for southern Saskatchewan.
