Concordia University issues alert after sex assault reports
Concordia University issued a warning this week to its female students urging them to be careful when interacting with strangers on social media.
In at least two cases, women were lured off campus with the promise of professional development advice on Instagram, only to be drugged and sexually assaulted.

West Island Women’s Shelter
The West Island Women’s Shelter (WIWS) is a safe haven for victims of abuse.
The organization offers free and confidential services to those searching for support.
The shelter helps women and children fleeing domestic violence in a variety of ways.
This month the organization held a 12-day action awareness campaign to put an end to domestic violence, including the gala fundraiser Pumps and Pearls.
Over 300 people attended the soiree at the Chateau Vaudreuil onFriday evening, which was MC’d by Orchard.
Former Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo made an emotional video appearance to share his own history of family violence.
The final tally for this year’s fundraising effort is $130,000. The money raised will go to the shelter and its 24-hour crisis team, as well as second-stage housing.
Earlier this week, WIWS board president Sandra Patone and board member Brigitte Garceau dropped by Focus Montreal studios to talk about the fundraiser and how the organization has been supporting women in the community for 35 years.
