West Kelowna Future Shop closed down

A West Kelowna electronics store is closing immediately as a result of a nationwide plan by Best Buy Canada.

On Thursday, Best Buy Canada announced it had permanently closed seven Best Buy stores and eight Future Shop stores, including Future Shop store on Carrington Road in West Kelowna.

The closure, which was done without advance notice, was done to “reduce unnecessary costs, eliminate redundant operating systems and to optimize its real estate strategy to reflect a more changing retail landscape”, according to a company press release. The store had just opened in 2011.

The release states Best Buy is focusing on opening “state of the art new Future Shop Small Concept web stores and new Best Buy Mobile locations across Canada”. Employees affected by the closure will receive severance support, access to employee assistance programs and career transition support.
