Police are asking anyone who witnesses the crash to contact investigators at 1-204-986-6271.
Traffic on Fort Street was closed for approximately seven hours causing traffic backup through Monday’s rush hour.
The Executive Vice President of the union representing transit workers in Winnipeg blames the crash on the restricted view points facing drivers.
“From what I understand, the driver picked up a couple of passengers and then he made a left hand turn off of Graham onto Fort Street,” Aleem Chaudhary said. “And unfortunately we have something called a blind spot from the pillars in the front.”
“He (the driver) didn’t see him until the very last second and at that point it was too late.”
Chaudhary told Global News that the union has been pushing for more awareness surrounding the blind spot drivers have to deal with.
