‘Thrones’ star Toronto-bound for disaster flick

TORONTO – The catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed a Roman city in 79 A.D. will be recreated for the big screen in – where else – Toronto.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson will shoot the epic Pompeii in the city from April 22 to July 5.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The only confirmed cast member so far is Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow on the HBO series Game of Thrones.

The 26-year-old British actor will play a slave on a Naples-bound ship trying to get home to save his girlfriend (his master’s daughter) and his best friend (a gladiator).

It’s a return visit for Harington – who was in the city to make last year’s release Silent Hill: Revelation 3D – and Anderson, who made three of the Resident Evil films in Toronto.
