Visa transactions resume after Canada-wide outage

TORONTO – Thousands of Visa customers breathed a sigh of relief as service resumed following a nation-wide outage Monday afternoon.

TD Canada Trust confirmed via Twitter early Monday evening that the credit card company was back up and running after it experienced a major disruption.

A Visa spokesperson told Global News the problem was related to a third party provider and not with the Visa network, which they say was “100 per cent operable.”

A power outage at payment processor Tsys resulted in the failure of some payment transactions and the company said it provided back up processing assistance where possible until operations returned to normal.

Earlier in the day, TD sent a tweet to one of its customers saying “Visa is experiencing issues all across Canada and are working towards a resolution.”
