Regina Public Library starts early literacy program

REGINA – A new program designed by the Regina Public Library is promoting reading at a young age even if the child is too young to even open a book.

Starting now, each baby born at the Regina General Hospital will leave with a bag full of books at early literacy resources.

The goal of the program called “Read Together Regina” is to introduce books into a child’s life right from the get-go.

“We’re all about learning and certainly that’s where children start, is when they’re born and if they’re read to at an early age, it’s proven it improves their reading skills as they move on” said Darlene Hincks chair of the Regina Public Library.

This initiative comes with a cost of $65 thousand.
