Taylor Swift to keep ‘Reputation’ off Spotify and other streaming services

The upcoming release of Taylor Swift’s LP Reputation is a case of good news, bad news for fans.

The good news is that the long-anticipated new album is scheduled to drop on Friday, Nov. 10. The bad news is that it won’t show up on Spotify and other streaming services for an entire week after that.

According to a report in Bloomberg, “people familiar with the matter” are claiming that Swift’s reps have informed streaming services that the new album won’t be available to be streamed during its first week of release. The album will, however, be available to purchase on iTunes.

As fans of Swift already know, she’s not a big fan of streaming, telling Yahoo in a 2014 interview that she believes streaming devalues music.

“Music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment,” Swift said at the time. “And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music. And I just don’t agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free.”
