Mississauga man sentenced eight years for killing girlfriend

TORONTO – A Mississauga man who pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend with a baseball bat while she slept has been sentenced to eight years behind bars.

Tim Turosky was charged with second degree murder in June 2010, after the body of 38-year-old Charmaine Whitley was found inside the couple’s home near Eglinton Avenue West and Mavis Road.

The accused admitted to police at the time that he killed Whitley because he was stressed out and he was off his medication for depression.

Turosky’s trial ended with a hung jury in June 2012 but in November, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Court heard the 47-year-old was afraid Whitley was going to leave him.

The judge credited the killer “two for one” for time served, leaving less than five years left in his sentence.
