TORONTO – Google announced a faster, re-designed version of its popular image search feature Wednesday, promising better search performance.
The re-designed image search, which will be rolled out over the coming days, will display image search results in an inline panel. Google says the new search will be faster, more reliable and provide a “more beautiful” experience.
The inline panel design was based off of feedback from users and webmasters to provide a better search experience.
“People looking for images on Google often want to browse through many images, looking both at the images and their metadata (detailed information about the images),” read a post on Google’s Webmaster Central blog.

Users will now be able to quickly flip through a set of images using just their keyboard and will be able to see detailed information about the image in the actual search results, instead of clicking on the photo to be redirected to a new page.

The new image search will also make it easier for users to see where the photo results are coming from. The domain name of the website where the photo is located will now be clickable, so users can redirect to the site immediately.
“In our tests, we’ve seen a net increase in the average click-through rate to the hosting website,” read Google’s blog post.
