The chief superintendent of schools at the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is stepping away from the job.
The CBE confirmed Monday that David Stevenson has tendered his resignation with 18 months still remaining on his five-year contract.
His letter comes just two weeks after the 2017 Calgary election which sent a number of trustees to the board who were openly critical of the administration.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve the CBE for over 42 years,” Stevenson wrote in his resignation letter.
Stevenson has held a number of jobs with the CBE including teacher, principal and director of special education.
He was hired as chief superintendent in June 2014 after his predecessor, Naomi Johnson, also stepped down early.
The Alberta government is in the midst of an operational review into CBE finances.
CBE officials confirm the board of trustees will meet on Monday to discuss the resignation.
