The Special Investigations Unit has terminated an investigation involving Hamilton police officers.

The police watchdog was called in after a 31-year-old man fell from a second-floor apartment on King Street East at around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.

The SIU report says the man tried to “evade police” by climbing down the balcony, but fell to the ground and suffered leg injuries.

The man was able to make his way back into the apartment building where one of the officers found him. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

SIU Director Tony Loparco said, “Based on the evidence, it is clear that the involved officers did not cause the man’s injuries. The man, of his own accord, attempted to elude the arresting officers by dangling by his hands from his balcony and dropping to the ground below. Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
