A weapons complaint that resulted in roads being blocked off in southwest Edmonton on Wednesday is not criminal in nature, according to police.
Just after noon, police said they were responding to a home in the area of 123 Street and 28 Avenue.
People who live on Blue Quill Crescent were asked to stay inside until further notice. Drivers and pedestrians were also asked to avoid the area.
The EPS Tactical Team was involved in the investigation.
Police at the scene said a man was inside the house by himself and shots were fired. He was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries are not known.
Police said no one else was ever in danger.
Several roads in the area were blocked off to traffic while police conducted their investigation. Shortly after 1 p.m., police said the situation was peacefully resolved.
Lori Nagy with Edmonton Catholic Schools said the nearby St. Teresa Elementary School was placed “on alert,” which means the kids stayed inside the school with the doors locked. Classes continued as usual, she said.

An email was sent home to families of kids in the school to make them aware of the situation, Nagy said.
There were no police vehicles around the school, but all of the window coverings were closed at around 12:30 p.m.
