2017 was not the year of the Tiger-Cat.

But Ticats fans can take solace in the fact that Hamilton is nowhere near the ineptness of the Montreal Alouettes.

The Ticats’ complete domination of the Alouettes on Sunday, a 43-16 humiliation in Montreal, is proof enough.

The Als are now 3-13 and have lost nine games in a row. But it goes beyond the scoreboard — Hamilton is light years ahead of Montreal both on and off the field.

When you look at the Alouettes’ roster, you’ll notice that they have 21 players who are 30 years of age or older, including the bulk of their corps. The Ticats have just seven players over 30.

Some CFL teams have been able to turn around their fortunes quickly, however. Take the most recent example, Ottawa, which went from a two-win season in 2014 to Grey Cup finalists the following year and CFL champs in 2016.

But the Alouettes need a major overhaul, and it must start with head coach and general manager Kavis Reed hiring a new head coach and sticking with him. He’ll also need to find a franchise quarterback, because the aging Darian Durant isn’t the answer.

In Sunday’s blowout game, Zach Collaros saw his first action for Hamilton since August 18 and was sent onto the field for just one series. He threw three passes before Everett Golson was put in. What a joke!

Perhaps trading for Collaros is the first move the Alouettes should make, because it’s clear Zach is not in Hamilton’s future plans.
