A multi-million-dollar mansion in Vancouver’s Shaughnessy neighbourhood was gutted by a fire early Sunday morning.
Crews were called to the home, located in the 3700-block of Angus Drive, at around 3 a.m.
At the height of the blaze, flames could be seen shooting up through the mansion’s roof.
The century-old mansion — last assessed at $14 million — is being called a write-off. Crews say no one was displaced by the fire as the home has been vacant for a while.
“These vacant homes [are] becoming more and more of a challenge, not only for the community, but for our firefighters,” Vancouver Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Brian Godlonton said.
“They come with a lot of risk — you never know what you’re up for when you come out for these fires once you gain access to them.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
