The United Way Peterborough and District Thursday says it’s well on its way to meeting its 2017 campaign goal of $1.85 million.
Early numbers were released Thursday morning, as 60 people crammed into the lobby of Robinson Place on Water Street. The total was revealed by seasonally appropriate Jack-o-lanterns that indicated $300,000 has already been raised by individuals and businesses in Peterborough and area.
“There is incredible momentum this year,” said United Way CEO Jim Russell. “The community is abuzz with plaid, and we are on pace for success.”
Russell was referring to campaign chair Neil Morton’s affinity for plaid — which is also this year’s campaign theme.
“Everyone say plaidtastic!” Morton said. “Plaid is the great equalizer representing hard-working, roll-up-your-sleeves people who believe in community.”
Plaid will also be the focus of the Peterborough Petes Nov. 2 game, which they’ve billed as Plaid Night. Canada 150 plaid scarves are also on sale. You can get tickets for the game, or a scarf, at the United Way office.
