Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Academy met Saturday to discuss allegations against Weinstein, announcing afterwards that a vote in “well in excess of the required two thirds” had been cast to immediately expel Weinstein.

“We do not simply separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory and workplace harassment in our industry is over,” the statement noted.

The announcement also noted that the board is working on ethical standards of conduct that it will expect all of its members to comply with.

Dozens of women, including actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have gone public with accusations against Weinstein following recent reports by The New York Times and The New Yorker detailing misconduct claims by others. He has denied any nonconsensual sexual conduct with any women.
Police in New York and London have both launched investigations into the allegations.

New York Police Department spokesman Peter Donald said Thursday that investigators are trying to determine whether there were any additional complaints involving Weinstein. That includes reviewing police files to see if any women previously reported being assaulted or harassed by him.
So far, no filed complaints have been found, he said, other than one well-known case that prompted an investigation in 2015, but authorities are encouraging anyone with information on Weinstein to contact the department.

Also Thursday, British media reported London police are investigating an allegation of sexual assault involving Weinstein. London’s Metropolitan police force said it had received an allegation of sexual assault from the Merseyside force in northwest England.
Merseyside police said the allegation was made Wednesday and concerns “an alleged sexual assault in the London area in the 1980s.”

A week ago he was fired from The Weinstein Co., which will now undergo a name change as it struggles to survive the current scandal.

His wife of 10 years, Georgina Chapman, announced publicly that she plans on leaving him. The couple has two young children together.
