In 2009: Liberal incumbent Gordon Hogg easily won this riding over NDP challenger Drina Allen by more than 8000 votes, 62-27%.

History & Geography: Created for the 1986 election as White Rock-Cloverdale before adopting its current name in the 1991 election, Surrey-White Rock also has parts of South Surrey, but only up to 24th Avenue. it’s bordered by Highway 99 to the east, and the ocean to the west and south. The riding elected a Social Credit MLA in 1986, but has otherwise elected Liberals in every election, with Gordon Hogg holding the seat since a 1997 byelection.

Candidates

Liberals-Gordon Hogg: The caucus chair for the Liberals, Hogg has been a Minister of State and parliamentary secretary for a variety of departments for the Liberals over the last 12 years. He was first elected in a 1997 byelection after serving as White Rock mayor for 10 years, and a city councillor for 10 years before that.

NDP-Susan Keeping: A non-profit organizer, Keeping spent 20 years with the Newton Advocacy Group Society. She received the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction award, and has been involved with a variety of Surrey-based community groups. She ran for the federal NDP in the 2011, but finished in second place with 20% of the vote.

Conservatives-Elizabeth Pagtakhan: A realtor, Pagtakhan ran in the 2006 Federal election for the Conservatives in Vancouver East, but finished third.

Greens-Don Pitcairn: A community activist, Pitcairn is the president of Surrey’s United Naturists.

BC Party-Jim Laurence: Laurence is one of three candidates for the British Columbia Party in this election.
