Man leads Saskatoon police on brief chase in stolen truck

A Canwood, Sask., man is facing several charges after leading Saskatoon police officers on a brief chase in a reported stolen truck.

Police were initially alerted that a Dodge truck was being driven erratically in the area of 34th Street West and Avenue D North late Sunday evening.

Officers located the truck in a parking lot during a search of the area.

The driver took off when officers activated their emergency equipment.

Police gave chase but called it off at Idylwyld Drive and 39th Street due to public safety concerns.

A call came in moments later that a vehicle had struck a parked trailer in an alley in the 1300-block of Avenue H North and a man fled on foot.

A police dog tracked the man to 33rd Street West and Avenue J North where he had just been taken into custody by patrol officers.

The 26-year-old man is charging with evading police, dangerous driving, and hit and run. He was also wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Police believe he evaded Shellbrook RCMP earlier in the day.
