“I was going to EB games and it was just after 10, and someone was coming out of the store, and they told three people approaching the store they were already sold out” said Darrell Parisian, one of many who went home empty-handed.

Lee Skwarek is the product and promotions manager for PNP Games in Winnipeg. He says the local retailer is sold out of walk-in units, with only a few pre-orders left to pick-up.

“I was awoken this morning at 5:30 in the morning by someone tweeting at our PNP games account, letting me know they were already standing in line in two degree weather for that thing”

Unlike issues with the release of the Nintendo Classic last year, gamers who missed out on the first round of shipments may eventually be able to find one.

“From the sounds of things, there are a lot more of these available than there were the NES classic edition last year” said Skwarek. “Patience is the key. If people are kind of willing to wait into October and stuff like when these restocks start rolling out, I think we’ll find that there are some available.”

“The proof will be in the pudding in a couple weeks time when they kind of roll out their first re-stock”

The plug-and-play console offers a retro gaming experiencing for those looking to enjoy a little 16-bit nostalgia. It comes loaded with 20 plus classic Super NES games, including versions of Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong. Another bonus for fans is the chance to play Star Fox 2, a game that was cancelled before it could be released back in 1995.

If you can find one, the Super Nintendo Classic retails for about $99.99 in Canada.
