Deadline reports Willis will return to his role as action hero John McClane in a new Die Hard movie. While the finer plot details are being kept under wraps, the movie is said to be a dive into McClane’s early days as an NYPD beat cop in the 1970s.

Underworld director Len Wiseman will helm the new movie which is being billed as more of a prequel than a sequel or reboot.  Willis will play the present-day McClane while the search is currently on for a young actor to take on the role for the flashback scenes.

“The right casting for this role is crucial,” Wiseman tells Deadline. “Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill.”

The original 1988 action thriller saw NYPD officer McClane face off against terrorist Hans Gruber (played by the late Alan Rickman), who had taken hostages during a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.

The new movie, which has yet to receive a release date, will be the franchise’s sixth installment. Most recently, Willis was back in action for 2013’s A Good Day To Die Hard, which saw Jai Courtney cast as McClane’s son, Jack, an undercover CIA officer working in Russia.
