Andrea Dolan grew up in Montreal West, using the recreation centre as a child.
After some time away, she recently moved back, saying it’s a good place to raise a family.
She said, with the recreation centre in a sorry state of repair, she worries her kids may have to go elsewhere for sports.
The Town of Montreal West was recently denied a $13 million grant to build a new, multi-use recreation centre at the site of the old one.

The $22 million facility could include a library, hockey arena, soccer field and swimming pool.
In the past, it has received funding from the Programme Nouveau Fonds Chantier Canada-Quebec to shore up its road and sewer infrastructure.
Montreal West Mayor Beny Masella said the town can apply for another grant from the agency, but noted that the parameters of the application are not yet clear.
The other option is for the town to pay its portion through a tax hike and surplus funds it has in reserve.
Other jurisdictions that received similar grants were Châteauguay, Saint-Hippolyte and McMasterville.
“It’s an incredible disappointment,” Dolan said.
“Very disappointed. I’m hopeful maybe there are other ways and we can find another solution.”
The agency that handles the grants didn’t return interview requests by Global News.
