Donations and heartfelt messages are pouring in for a B.C. filmmaker’s daughter after the search for her 38-year-old mother ended in tragedy on Friday.

After news broke that underwater cinematographer Twyla Roscovich’s body was found near Fisherman’s Wharf Marina in Campbell River, attention quickly turned to her four-year-old daughter Ruby.

Roscovich’s step sister Leni Goggins has set up an endowment fund for the child through a Gofundme page, which has raised about $40,000 in just three days.

“We are about to break the $40K mark and we are watching this endowment grow in awe,” wrote Goggins on Tuesday evening.

“Our family has the campaign set up on their respective computers and we all check in all day to remind ourselves that amidst all this pain, there is so much hope.”

Along with money dozens of messages from strangers have been posted, many saying they’d never met Twyla but wish they had.

“My deepest condolences to Twyla’s family, friends and community. I wish I could have met her. I have a sense of the bright spirit she was from all of those who loved her. Peace and love,” wrote one donor.

“I looked up to Twyla, as a storyteller, as a diver, as a mother. I am deeply saddened by her struggle and I wish she had gotten the help she needed, as her brilliant talent is needed now, more than ever,” wrote another.

“I hope Ruby grows up knowing her mother was courageous and compassionate. Two of Twyla’s best qualities.”

The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise $50,000 for Ruby, to be given to the girl when she reaches the age of maturity.
