Winnipeg Goldeyes even up championship series

After getting beat up in the series opener the Winnipeg Goldeyes came through with a clutch game two victory in the championship series on Thursday.

The Goldeyes scored five runs in the fifth inning and coasted to the 7-1 victory over the Wichita Wingnuts at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. Reggie Abercrombie lead the charge with a pair of home runs as the Goldeyes belted out 14 hits in their final road game of the season. The win evened up the best-of-five championship series at one game apiece and ended the Wingnuts’ ten game win streak that dated all the way back to the regular season.

After seven Goldeyes’ pitchers were tagged for a combined 12 runs in the series opener, game two starter Edwin Carl was terrific in earning his first win of the playoffs. He pitched six complete innings and allowed just one run on six hits. He struck out six Wingnuts’ batters and issued three walks. Alex Boshers was saddled with the loss after the Goldeyes tagged him for five runs in four and two thirds innings.

The series takes Friday off as the two teams travel to Winnipeg for the final three games if necessary. Game three is on Saturday at Shaw Park with first pitch set for 6:05 pm. Kevin McGovern is scheduled to get the start on the mound for the Goldeyes.
