The BC Human Rights Code is the reason behind the Greater Victoria School District dumping dress codes.
That’s according to Greater Victoria School District Superintendent Pieter Langstraat who told CKNW’s Simi Sara Show that dress codes have “run up against cultural norms in our increasingly diverse community,” as well as issues around body image over what female students choose to wear to class.
Langstraat says, “there have been a couple of themes emerging here in the Greater Victoria School District that have caused the board to have a look at school dress codes.”
The move would impact students at 47 schools in that district.
