Edmonton Oilers are perfect in Penticton after OT win over Canucks

Kirill Maksimov scored 2:39 into overtime, giving the Edmonton Oilers a 5-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks Monday afternoon in the final game of the Young Stars Classic in Penticton.

The Oilers went 3-0 in the tournament for the second-straight year. They’re 10-0-2 in Penticton over the last four years.

The Canucks dominated the first period, outshooting the Oilers 16-4 and going up 2-0 on a pair of goals from Michael Carcone.

The Oilers woke up in the second frame and went ahead on two goals by Joe Gambardella and one from Ziyat Paigin.

Ostap Safin made it 4-2 just 45 seconds into the third. However, the Canucks fought back. Johan Gadjovich tallied on a two-man advantage with 5:46 left. Matt Brassard evened it with a floater from the point with 1:33 left.

Shane Starrett made 42 saves for the Oilers.
