The 9th edition of Supercrawl is history.
I love Supercrawl because it exemplifies Hamilton’s gritty renascence.
For years it seemed Hamilton was looking for anything to latch onto to regain its identity and chart a new path for the future.
Stadium, sports teams, events, waterfalls, something to lift the city up and be ambitiously admired again.
While everyone was looking for the next big thing, a little event was started aimed at Hamilton’s burgeoning arts community.
Artcrawl was initiated by a small group of entrepreneurial artists determined to show people another side of Hamilton and celebrate the downtown core.
The second Friday of every month James Street North stayed open late to show off what it had become.
The word got out, and traffic grew.
From that vision, Supercrawl was born.
And over the last nine years, it has become one of the premier art and music festivals in Ontario drawing thousands of people and injecting millions of dollars into the city.
Supercrawl is thriving, and so is the Hammer!
Hang on for No. 10!
